Overspeed governor
What is an overspeed governor?
Lifts are equipped with gripping devices to save people from being harmed while using or working on lift systems. The gripping device is triggered by the overspeed governor once the speed-limit is broken.
The overspeed governor is composed of two sheaves one at the top and one at the bottom of the shaft pit.
A steel cable is guided over these rollers, with its ends fastened to the gripping device on the car. This safety installation is activated automatically once the elevator breaks the speed-limit.
